Joey Barton claims England's men would beat the Lionesses 30-0 in a single half of football

 Joey Barton has once again taken to social media to continue his sexist campaign against women's football, suggesting that England's men would beat European champions the Lionesses 30-0 inside one half of football. 

Barton has made headlines of late for his social media rants against women in men's football, clashing with a number of analysts, commentators and pundits featuring in coverage for the men's game. 

Alex Scott notably hit out at Barton, while Emma Hayes launched a scathing four-minute monologue against male privilege in football and Carrie Brown admitted that working on football has 'sucked the life out of her' after Barton referenced her appearance.

The controversial former England international was seen earlier this week at Brighton's 1-0 win over his former team Marseille in the Europa League, and was spotted interacting with fans in the stands and posing for selfies. 

On Friday Barton reposted a video that had done the rounds on social media of a team of both former members of the USA women's team losing 12-0 to a team of ex-Wrexham players, accompanied by another seemingly sexist caption.

12-0 Retired men on a smaller pitch!' the former Bristol Rovers boss wrote.

'But yeah let’s just keep pretending it’s the same game shall we? Last thing we want is people to get their knickers in a twist. 

'The Women’s game is growing and that is amazing. Stop trying to ruin ours!'

One account then suggested that England's men would beat the Lionesses 30-0, to which Barton replied: 'First half...' followed by a thumbs up and a laughing emoji. 

Sarina Wiegman's side are the current European Champions, having beaten Germany 2-1 in a thrilling final at Wembley in summer 2022.

Wiegman then took the Lionesses to the final of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand last summer, only to lose 1-0 to Spain, courtesy of a goal from Olga Carmona. 

The Three Lions, however, have not won a senior competition since 1966, although Gareth Southgate's side are considered one of the best teams in the international arena. 

It comes as Barton continues to make headlines with a series of misogynistic  posts on social media, stating: 'Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game.'

'Come on. Let's be serious,' Barton added, before suggesting: 'Any man who listens to Women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing...' 

The former Burnley, QPR and Man City midfielder also recently appeared on Piers Morgan's talkshow 'Piers Morgan: Uncensored', seemingly doubling down on the controversial comments.

The ex-Bristol Rovers manager said he wasn't sexist but added that a 'woke agenda' was fuelling the decision to hire women as football pundits. 

'I don’t want to see sexism in football, but if we don’t debate (the role of women in football broadcasting) properly, this is just going to rise and rise, and ruin the experience of watching elite-level men's football,' Barton said when asked by Morgan if his social media posts had been deliberately inflammatory. 

He would also claim that the appointment of pundits and analysts should be made on merit, slamming 'unqualified opinions' on broadcasts.  

'Everywhere you turn now, there’s an unqualified opinion pontificating about the sport I love, and it’s ruining my experience - to fuel this woke agenda, and it’s going to increase sexism massively, because it has to be a true meritocracy. We have to have people who are qualified to do those roles.'
